2013 Novel Ideas Auction Items


43. 2014 Calendar “Ts'msyen Stories” by Alexander Clifton Ridley

Every year we are fortunate to have Mr. Ridley share his art with us.  This year brings this beautiful calendar with the Spirit Bear Totem Pole on the cover.  The calendar is full of photos of Mr. Ridley's art work.  We chose the book Art of the Northwest Coast by Aldora Jonaitis.

41. Warm and Lovely Knit Hat by Joan Patriquin

Joan knit this hat using merino and nylon fleece from New Zealand and handspun and dyed wool from Smithers.  The driftwood button was obtained on a kayak trip to Bonilla Island.  The hat took 10 hours to create and the materials were $11.00. Library staff chose Kayak Routes of the Pacific Northwest Coast by Peter McGee to accompany Joan's creation.

40. Going Down the Skunk Cabbage Hole by Arianne Loranger-Saindon

 Arianne told library staff  “Skunk cabbages are really hard to photograph, but I love them and I'm so happy when a shot turns out”  We think Arianne's photo is absolutely striking and that she did a super job!  Arianne chose Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll as her inspiration for this photo.

31. Mama and Little Princess Frilly Scarf Set by Lisa Doolan

Lisa is brand new to knitting and we think she did a fabulous job on this jazzy and trendy scarf set!  Lisa chose the book Scarves to Make by Linda Lee to accompany her lovely scarves.

37. Cosmetic or Travel Bag by Sheila Seidemann

Shiela made this small, brightly coloured, pink, orange and white cosmetic bag for home or for your travels. Library staff chose the book Face Forward by Kevin Aucoin to accompany it.

36. Crayon Carrier by Sheila Seidemann

Sheila made this colourful crayon carrier inspired by the Dodge Cove Counting Book (soon to be added to our Northwest History Collection) - it comes complete with crayons!

35. Basket of Hand Made All Natural Bath Products by Laurie Gray

Laurie created this basket full of soaps and lotion and dropped it off at the library on her way to a busy weekend at the craft fair in Kitimat.  We are so glad she thought of the library on her way!  Library staff chose Making Natural Liquid Soaps by Catherine Failor and The Complete Soapmaker by Norma J. Coney to go with Laurie's donation.

34. Crazy Eight Baby Quilt and Snuggly Ribbon Blankie by Sue Sullivan

This 37” X 45” baby quilt is made with ice dyed fabrics and backed with cozy apple green minky.  It is both colourful and warm. The leftover minky has been made into a snuggly ribbon blankie.  Library staff chose the book Transforming Fabric by Carolyn Dahl to accompany Sue's quilts.

33. Peregrine Falcon Watercolour by Bernie Rothwell

Big thanks to Bernie for sharing her talent with us!  Library staff chose the book The Art of the World's Greatest Watercolorists by Fiona Hackney.

32. Child's “Helmut” Style Hat by Jenny Boneshyn

Jenny wet felted this hat made of 100% merino wool fibres and Tussah silk stands. Jenny was inspired and self-taught using techniques explained in the book “Uniquely Felt” by Christine White. Jenny has kindly loaned the book to us for the auction, sorry, it's not for sale!
