JUST BRING YOUR STICKS AND STRING

Make it Yourself! Knitting for Adults, Teens (and tweens)

A few details:

Who’s teaching this class?

My name is Leah Cuthbert, I work for the Prince Rupert Library and amongst other things I also knit a great deal (when I’m not at work of course!). Wednesday afternoon is my time off and I wanted to use that time to pass on the bits of knowledge that I have to young people who’d like to learn a new craft.

What are we going to do?

Knitting for teens (and tweens) is an opportunity for young people to relax, meet new friends and learn a skill at the same time. The class is free and is open to new knitters and old pros alike. If you’re already comfortable with knitting you are welcome to join us and work on your UFO (unfinished object) and I’ll help you with snags or just be impressed by your skill!

We’ll start out learning basic stitches and gradually work towards finishing a small project or 2. I’ll cover a bit about how to choose the right yarn and needles for your project or tricks to adapting the yarn that you already have.

What supplies do we need?

Knitting needles – one pair of straight needles, size 5mm is preferred but 4, 4.5 or 5.5mm will work too. Don’t buy new 5mm needles if you have one of the other sizes.

Bring a small ball of worsted weight yarn, in any mix of wool, acrylic, polyester. Please do not bring a yarn that does not have a smooth surface. Stay away from eyelash, chenille and anything fluffy (novelty yarns).

For a bit more information on what a worsted weight yarn might look like you can come into the library where I’ll have a few samples and /or you can check out the Craft Council Website which does a great job of breaking down the yarn categories.

So besides your sticks and string all you need is the desire to learn a new skill, relax and have fun. My goal is to make this a stress free hour and 45 minutes, so expect to learn at your own pace, feel no pressure, help others if you can and have a good time.

I will be happy to answer any questions or concerns. Contact me at the library at 250-627-1345.
