Artists / Community Groups
In this project, artists and community groups are working together toward a common goal.
Henry Green, Tsimshian Carver
- Henry will research the tools needed, recording the process.
- Henry will make the tools for the project.
Amy Huestis, painter and coordinator of North Pacific Artists
- Amy is directing the Northcoast Net project. She is a painter who maintains a studio at North Pacific Cannery Village Museum.
Dorothy Spencer, Potter, Sculptor, and Studio/Gallery proprietor.
- Dorothy will work with Amy and Susan to install the exhibit.
- Dorothy has particular talents in promotion of artists and their projects, and will be a key community individual to spread the news of this project.
Edward Bryant, Tsimshian Multimedia Artist
- Edward Bryant was one of the initiators of Northcoast Net; it was Ed's idea to make a stinging nettle net. Currently, Ed is creating art and teaching in Germany.
North Pacific Cannery Village Museum Society
- North Pacific Cannery Village Museum will donate the space in which the net will be made*, and living accomodations for people coming from communities outside of Prince Rupert and Port Edward who wish to work on the project, and the space for the exhibit. North Pacific Cannery Village Museum will managed, maintained, and insured the exhibit.
- North Pacific Cannery Village Museum will also fulfill the interim report requirements of documentation.
Ecotrust Canada, fiscal agent and administrative body to project
- Ecotrust Canada exists to promote conservation-based development in Coastal Temperate Rainforest communities in BC.
School District 52, Resource Centre
- As a parallel project, School district 52 will produce a 15 minute video for the schools on the cultural aspects of this endeavour. Ken will be recording the video footage of the main aspects of the process. The school district will donate this footage, and the program will hire an editor and equipment to produce a broadcast-quality, ten minute video. This video would be used for the multimedia display and could then be widely distributed.
- School District 52 would like to include Northcoast Net in the 1998-99 curriculm for Grade 5 and Secondary students.
Susan Marsden, Curator of the Museum of Northern B.C.
- Susan will collaborate with Dorothy Spencer and Amy Huestis on the installation of the exhibit, its interpretational panels and multimedia display. This core group will also draw on ideas from the artists and community groups involved, and will work with technical advisors and staff to install the exhibit.
Allan Wilson, Cheif Librarian, Prince Rupert Public Library
- Allan will coordinate the website and multimedia display, FibreNET. Working with students and volunteers, developing this extensive system.
- The library will host the website and fundraise for the project.
