Board Statement on Outsourcing
The Prince Rupert Public Library Board has issued a statement in response to community concerns regarding the possible outsourcing of library services.
Amid discussions about the condition of the current library building, the City of Prince Rupert contacted Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) to explore options for a new facility. The Library Board was not included in follow-up discussions and has since been informed that VIRL has declined to proceed with any proposal.
The Board emphasizes its commitment to a community-led library and will continue working with patrons, local groups, stakeholders, and City Staff to support City Council in recognizing the importance of a locally governed public library.
