The Grand Priory of the British Realms of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem is a world wide voluntary, nonprofit organization that started in the latter half of the 19th century, but has roots that date back 1300 years before the Middle Ages. St. John Ambulance began in Canada in 1882. In B.C. St. John Ambulance began first aid training for logging in 1906 and mining in 1910. The Branch in Prince Rupert was officially registered February 2, 1968.

St. John Ambulance is the only trained agency in B.C. to have two courses that have been granted the WCB LEVEL 1 equivalency. Successful students who complete any of our Emergency or Standard First Aid Courses are covered by $ 1 Million liability insurance, students also receive a nationally recognized certificate.

St. John Ambulance Brigade are uniformed volunteers who provide First Aid services at public events and deliver community health care services. The brigade is supported through donations for the work they do in the community and the net revenues of the training division - it is not supported by Government agencies.
