Prince Rupert Library Board Meeting Minutes

March 17, 2016

Present:

Dale White (DW), Brent Patriquin (BP), Lauren Williams (LW), Devlin Fernandes (DF), Glenn Groulx (GG), Tim MacDonald (TM), Joy Thorkelson (JT), Barry Cunningham (BC), Joe Zelwietro (JZ) Chief Librarian

Regrets: Helen Moore (HM)

Meeting commenced at 7:30 pm.

• Motion to accept agenda, moved by GG, seconded by BP; passed
• Motion to accept minutes, moved by TM, seconded by LW; passed
• Discussion re: city staff recommendation to Council to grant Library originally requested grant of $596,000, be aware that Council must still pass this before it becomes official
• Library trustees should consider setting up a workshop with city council to explain the importance of our requested level of funding, significance of Library Act, etc., after this present budget phase in order for council to be better prepared for next form of funding.
• Presentation by Lou and Kathleen (library employees) about the union's effort to obtain wage equity with City of Prince Rupert staff.
• Trustees wish to explore the wage equity issue. A motion by JT, seconded by DF to form a board committee was made and it passed. TM, DW and LW are the committee.
• A date for the Library's Annual General Meeting (AGM) was decided. The AGM will be held on April 28 at 7pm in the Multipurpose room of the Library.
• A motion by TM, seconded by LW that JZ draft a Librarian job description for the May 2016 Library Board meeting. Passed.
• Discussion about increasing funding revenues for the library from local neighbours of Prince Rupert. A motion moved by DF, seconded by BP to form a committee to promote the library in neighbouring communities was passed. GG, DF and DW will be on this committee.

Meeting Adjourned at 9:40 pm. Next Meeting at 7pm (April, 28, 2016).
It will be a combination AGM and regular April Board meeting.
