In February 2004, a group of Rotarians began exploring the feasibility of re-opening the Rushbrook - Seal Cove Trail. The 1.5 kilometer waterfront trail is currently closed by the City of Prince Rupert for liability reasons. An engineering firm, Trow Associates, prepared a report which identified a cost-effective means of fixing the problem.
The Team Leader, Cyril Volney made a presentation to City Council, which passed a motion in favour of the project at its regular meeting on May 10, 2004. Both the Rotary Club of Prince Rupert and the City of Prince Rupert are contributing towards the project.
The Club has secured $75,000 in funding from Coastal Sustainability Trust, $150,000 from Olympic Live Sites and $28,500 from Western Economic Diversification. Trow Associates conducted a geo-technical study in June 2005 and construction is planned to commence in the Autumn.
Target date: May 2006 Team Members
