16. Doily Parasol donated by Marcia Paterson, made by Chelsea Keays

This lovely parasol was created from a found umbrella and Chelsea’s collection of doilies dyed in tea. Chelsea says this umbrella casts beautiful shadows when suspended from the ceiling by the handle. It took about 10 hours to assemble this unique item and as for the inspiration? Chelsea says, “Doilies – I love them” We paired Chelsea’s parasol with The Big Book of Doilies by the American School of Needlework.

15. "Old Wooden Walkway in Moresby Park" by Moyna MacIlroy

A lovely large photograph on canvas of the old wooden walkway in Moresby Park, evocative of “forgotten times”, according to Moyna. The photograph cost $185.00. It has been paired with The Outsider’s Guide to Prince Rupert by Matt J. Simmons, which describes the Moresby Trail on page 20.

14. Paddy Green Splendid Shawl by Lisa Latimer

This beautiful splendid shawl uses a slightly modified corner-to-corner technique along with a lace border, chose to use this RedHeart worsted weight acrylic yarn so that it is machine washable and dryable for easy cleaning and care. Includes a new wooden Shawl Pin and a $25 Amazon gift card. It was inspired by the love of the colour green and Box Stitch Crochet by Corinne Freeman.

13. “Skeena by Rail” Painting by Mallory Burton

This framed watercolor was based on a photo taken by Mallory while traveling along the Skeena on Via Rail. This item measures approximately 20.5 by 16 inches, and has been paired with Canada by Train.

12. Jean’s Purple Project by Trish Banighen

That was the name the late Jean Clerihue wrote on the box that Trish found, which included a few finished squares. Trish copied the squares Jean had made, added purple fabrics for sashing and finished up yet another of the surprise projects Jean had left. Trish was inspired by the color and title on the box to choose Alice Walker’s The Color Purple to accompany this piece.

11. Purple Pillows by Trish Banighen

The tops of these pillows were made using scraps of patchwork created by the late Jean Clerihue, possibly as learning projects, as Jean was always interested in a new technique or creative pattern. It’s been paired with Sunset’s Simply Pillows.

10. One Month of Fresh Bread by Chelsea Keays

This is not only for the bread available on auction night, but three more loaves, delivered to your door once a week. (If you live in Prince Rupert…) Chelsea’s inspiration was the book Sourdough by Sarah Owens; unfortunately we don’t have that title and have substituted The Tassajara Bread Book by Edward Espe Brown, that taught a generation to bake bread and that includes recipes for sourdough.

09. Original Watercolor Illustrations for Grey Cat at Sea by Claudia Stewart

A piece of North Coast history, these are the original watercolors for the book Grey Cat at Sea. Joan Skogan, the author and a fisheries officer, supplied photos that inspired many of the pieces. Claudia’s daughter, who was five at the time, also helped with ideas, which Claudia said she appreciated.

08. Fire and Earth Crocheted Scarf by Laura Esposito

Dark earth tones with bursts of red are crocheted into this lovely square-edged scarf, with stripes like layers of volcanic rock still cooling. Who wouldn’t feel warm with this comfortable, yet stylish scarf, wrapped around them? Measures 5x1 feet. We’ve paired it with Volcanoes: Fire from Below by Jenny Wood..

07. ‘Temple Cats’ Toques by Janice Astawa

First seen by Janice worn by a couple of brothers-in-law from the show Cat Canopy Rescue where volunteers in Washington State rescue cats stuck (often quite high up) in trees, she noticed that it wasn’t just an intricate Egyptian motif, but actually cats! She was inspired by A Street Cat Named Bob and The World According to Bob by James Bowen.
