Items for the 2019 Novel Idea Auction

52. 2 sets of Wands by Sarah Clarke

Sarah Clarke: 2 sets of Wands: Sarah, who is in Grade 7, was inspired to make all these wands from chopsticks (with findings, hot glue and paint), by the Harry Potter books. It takes her about an hour to create each one. We are auctioning them at her suggestion, in 2 sets of 9 each. “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling.

51. Biscotti and Pizelle by Laura Esposito

Laura Esposito: Biscotti and Pizelle: 5 beautifully-presented packages of traditional Italian cookies made by Laura: a package of almond biscotti, 2 of almond-cranberry biscotti and 2 of pizelle. We have chosen the DK Eyewitness guide “Italy 2019” to help you find your way around in quest of more of these delicious cookies!

50. 4 Packages of Cards by Allan Colton

Allan Colton: 4 Packages of Cards: Allan is becoming well-known around Prince Rupert, as his beautiful cards are sold in many local stores. We have four packets: 3 featuring birds, 3 of bears, 4 of seascapes and a packet of 3 mixed. Auction separately. Allan asked us to chose a book on photography so we selected “ Photographing the World Around You” by Freeman Patterson, a well-known Canadian photographer, as Allan certainly does that!

49. Frame-able Photographs by Allan Colton

Allan Colton: Frame-able Photographs: 2 frame-able photographs with double matts: one of a boat laden with prawn gear leaving Porpoise Harbour, and one of Cow Bay, which includes a disabled coal ship that was tied up for a time. Also included with each is a card. Retail Value: $50. Auction separately. Paired with “Rain People: the story of Ocean Falls” by Bruce Ramsey, where Allan was born.

48. Gift Certificate to Pre-School Dance Class by Dance Academy of Prince Rupert

Dance Academy of Prince Rupert: Gift Certificate to Pre-School Dance Class: dance classes for 3 & 4 year olds, three available times, student must be registered before January 31, 2020 (classes have already begun and will end in June 2020), certificate only applies for a new student. Theresa chose “Angelina Ballerina” by Katharine Holabird, but she is currently circulating, so we have subbed in “Angelina on Stage.”

47. Thick Crocheted Tube Socks by Dagmar Ohman

Dagmar Ohman: Thick Crocheted Tube Socks: inspired by the novel “Forrest Gump” by Winston Groom. In the book, the soldiers sent to Vietnam are told: “Don’t do anything stupid and look after your feet.” These thick socks would certainly do just that! They take 3 hours per pair and cost about $9.00 in materials. As we don’t own the book, we offer the DVD “Forrest Gump” instead.

46. Double-Fudge Chocolate Chip Brownies by Beth Dimond

Beth Dimond: Double-Fudge Chocolate Chip Brownies: Beth’s legendary rich chocolate squares filled with cocoa, chocolate chips and and toasted pecans. Share with a friend (fat chance!) or tuck away in the freezer for a special occasion. Paired with the cookbook: “pure chocolate” by Fran Bigelow (Photo taken at a previous Novel Idea Auction fundraiser).

45. Autumn Leaves Table Runner by Sheila Seidemann

Sheila Seidemann: Autumn Leaves Table Runner: inspired by a recent trip up Highway 37, where Sheila was awed by the beautiful colours of the autumn leaves, including the rich gold of the larches which she hadn’t seen. She was interested and found information about larches (tamaracks) in “Trees in Canada” by John Laird Farrar.

44. Squash, Preserves and Garlic by Dolly Harasym

Dolly Harasym: Squash, Preserves and Garlic: Dolly and Alan grew the Pink Banana (yup that’s what it’s called”, the garlic and the other fruits and vegetables in the preserves, except for the wild bog cranberries, which they gathered. It doesn’t get more local than this! Dolly loves the children’s book “The Mare’s Egg” (which she is lending for display, not giving)about a naive young immigrant to the New World, a shyster and a pumpkin. Dolly and Allan (and their friends) can attest that even if the Pink Banana doesn’t emulate the pumpkin in the story, it’s delicious any way you wish to cook it. These are all truly “Gifts From the Garden”. The time and money invested in this generous donation are pretty much unquantifiable.

43. Funky Side Table by Alan Carl

Alan Carl- Funky Side Table: donates a one-of-a-kind hand-made table, always wildly original: this year’s six-legged table (count them!) with red cedar live-edge top is no exception. This art piece would fit into any décor but we are suggesting it fit in well with that the clean aesthetic of “ The New Cottage Home”.
