The net will be used once ceremonially in Inverness Passage followed by a traditional First Nations Feast and Celebration involving ceremony, dance and song.
How:
Volunteers, staff and the working group committee will plan the Feast and Celebration. The First Nations Elders at the Friendship House will make the food.
When:
    June 1998.
Where:
North Pacific Cannery Village Museum (Inverness Passage).
Why:
First Nations Feasts mark important events in the community, bringing people together in ceremony, spirit, and celebration. This feast will celebrate the revival of an ancient art. It will celebrate the community's artistic vision, and the ties we have made within the community. The ceremonial use of the net will demonstrate its usefulness and place in the community by catching salmon.

  • Dance, Honoraria: First Nations Dance Groups will be perform dance and song associated with Fishing and Salmon.
  • Public Awareness: Volunteers will be gathered to help with the preparations and participating communities and community groups will be invited through delivered invitations and through newspaper and radio coverage.
  • Preparation and Protocol: To ensure this feast is done properly and respectfully, strict protocol will be followed before, during, and after the event.
  • Food: The First Nations Elders at the Friendship House will provide Northwest coast First Nations foods and will be given an Honorarium for their hard work.
  • Gifts: Traditionally, gifts are given at feasts to Chiefs, Matriarchs, Elders, and to everyone who attends. We will give traditional gifts such as blankets, buttons, and works of art.
