Borrowing Guidelines

Borrowing Limits

Patrons can borrow up to 50 items at one time. The following category limits also apply:

  • DVDs: 5 at a time
  • Videos: 5 at a time
  • CDs: 5 at a time
  • Talking Books: 5 at a time

New library users will have lower limits for their first three months, including a maximum of 5 books and 10 items overall.

Loan Periods

  • Books, Magazines, Talking Books: 3 weeks
  • Board Games: 3 weeks
  • Kits: 3 weeks
  • Library of Things: 1 week
  • DVDs: 1 week

Renewals

Library materials (excluding interlibrary loans and BC Interlibrary Connect items) may be renewed twice. Renewals can be done:

  • By phone during open hours: 250-627-1345
  • In person (you do not need to bring the items, provided there are no holds on them)
  • Online by logging into your account

Holds

Patrons may place up to 3 active holds at one time. Ask staff to place a hold on material that is currently out, or place one yourself via the Online Catalogue. You will be notified when your item is ready. Holds must be picked up within 7 days or they will be returned to the shelf for the next person.

Fines

In order to make the library accessible to all, we no longer charge fines on overdue items from our own collection.

We do charge a small fee of $1.00 for interlibrary loan items that are not picked up.

Items borrowed through BC Interlibrary Connect from other libraries may be subject to those libraries' own fine policies, which can vary.

Lost or Damaged Items

If an item is lost or damaged, the cost of the item plus a processing fee will be charged. Library materials are the sole responsibility of the person who borrowed them, even if the item was loaned to a family member or friend. Your signature on your library card signifies your agreement with these rules.

Juvenile Items

Juvenile items can be identified by their shelving location or by a leading "J" in their call number - for example, JP (Juvenile Picture Books), JF (Juvenile Fiction), or J (Juvenile Non-Fiction).
