We're starting a teen book club!
The books will be chosen by those in the book club, and the meetings will be guided by a staff member. It is our hope that this will provide a comfortable environment for youth to choose what to read for themselves, to foster a sense of community, and maybe even build their critical thinking skills in discussion.
Early feedback has suggested both The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson and the Olympians as potentials for our first book. If you know anyone who is interested, please let them know. Interested individuals can come to the library to pick up a survey slip, or just come to our first meeting.
Our launch session is Tuesday, July 8th at 3:30-4:00pm, when teens can come vote on their choice of book.

Depending on when you were in last, you may have noticed some worn-looking walls, or perhaps that two of our June displays migrated to make space for a new project? Both our Pride and Indigenous Authors displays moved to make way for a fresh coat of paint.
Our foyer, and part of the main floor, including the Children's Area, are getting a bit of an update. What a difference some fresh paint can make for tired patched walls. It's all still a work-in-progress, but we're pretty excited.

You may have also seen in our social media post that this is now a permanent landing place for new arrivals by indigenous authors and titles related to our Lisa Doolan Latimer Truth and Reconciliation Collection.

The Salmon artwork donated by Master Carver Dempsey Bob has found its permanent home in a glass display case across from our checkout desk.

Look at how gorgeous our salmon are looking these days? They're nearly ready to leave the confines of the library and try their luck out in the wild. We don't have a release date set yet, but expect it to happen in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully we'll get enough notice to send out an invitation via social media.
