Quilt Show 2007
A quilt from the 2007 Quilt Show
18. "Trapezoid Orchids" by Sandra Duffus
This quilt was made by Sandra Duffus.
Sandra: "I couldn't bear to cut into the orchids so I made trapezoid shapes. Other pieces were worked in to enlarge the quilt. Machine sewn and quilted."
17. "Starburst" by Ella Gilker
This quilt was made by Ella Gilker. A Christmas quilt, it was pieced and machine quilted by Ella as part of a class taught by Pam Mahoney.
16. "Paul's Quilt" by the Coastal Quilters
This quilt has the shortest time-line of any of the Coastal Quilters': it was made over Christmas week in December 2005 in Dodge Cove for Paul Ramer, a former resident, who had terminal colon cancer. Paul and his family had moved to Saltspring Island, but he returned every summer for salmon fishing and kept up his friendships in the area. He was very touched by the love and effort the quilt represented, proudly displaying it to all his southern friends and visitors, and slept under it the last few weeks of his life.
This painting of the Coastal Quilters making Paul's Quilt was done by Dodge Cove artist Iris Barker. Pictured are Jane Wilde, Kristin Miller and other members of the Coastal Quilters.
15. "Bargello" by Pam Mahoney
This quilt was made by Pam Mahoney in 2002.
Pam: "To make this quilt I employed strip quilting using different combinations of colour, sewing them together, then cutting them into different widths to insert them, creating contrast, to form the Bargello design."
14. "Star Quilt" from Patti Ulmer
This cheerful quilt belongs to Patti Ulmer. It is hand pieced and quilted.
13. "Morning Dance" by Eunice Seidemann
This quilt was made in 2007 by Eunice Seidemann of Hunt's Inlet.
Eunice: "I wanted to hide an ugly door and add a bright corner in the dark part of the kitchen. The magic of quiltmaking took this wall hanging beyond my whims. It has motion and speaks to me of all the friends who've given me pieces of fabric over the years. Now instead of just a brightness in the corner it lifts my spirit and causes a smile."
12. "Nine Patch Quilt" from Patti Ulmer
This quilt is owned by Patti Ulmer of Prince Rupert. It is machine pieced with hand quilting.
11. "New York Beauty" by Kathy Murphy
This quilt was made by Kathy Murphy; a project that was completed 7 years after Kathy took a class by Pam Mahoney. Kathy: "It's never too late to finish."
10. "Trip around the world with a twist" by Ella Gilker
This quilt was made by Ella Gilker in 2006 after a class she attended by Pam Mahoney of the Fabric Boutique. Ella had the machine quilting done by Betty Doering of the Cotton Pick "N" Quilt Patch in Terrace.
9. "Love for Florbela" by Ceu Cunha
This quilt was made by Ceu Cunha for her daughter Florbela. Ceu had originally made a different quilt for Florbela for Christmas 2001, but it was stolen in Vancouver before Florbela even had a chance to see it. Ceu made this as a replacement, completing it in April 2002.
