Curbside Pick-up Procedure at the Prince Rupert Library

As of Monday, June 1st 2020, the Library will be offering Curbside Pick-Up Services, while continuing to deliver to those that need home delivery.

As of June 1st 2020, we will also be re-opening our blue Book Bin, and ask that patrons start returning all of those materials they’ve been kindly keeping at home. The book bin will be open during the day, as well as during the evenings, so please return all of your library materials to the book bin, regardless of the time of day.

Here’s how you can participate in our Curbside Pick-up Program:

  1. Place items on hold using the Library’s online catalogue.
    - If you don’t have a valid password for your account, contact the library at 250-627-1345 to acquire one.
    - If you are having issues with the catalogue you can also place your holds by email at circulation@princerupertlibrary.ca or contact staff at 250-627-1345 (Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 1-5 p.m.)
  2. Staff will prepare your items for pick-up and will contact you to confirm your order and library account number (on back of your library card). Any fines or charges on your account must be under $5.00. Arrangements can be made for cash payments, if necessary, before any items will be loaned.
    - A pick-up time will be arranged at this time. Curbside pick-up is available Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 1-5 p.m.
  3. In order to facilitate social distancing, please arrive at the library within the time frame you chose.
    - You will need to bring your library card with you when picking up your books. The card must be the same card used to place the holds.
  4. Observe social distancing by waiting until there is no one else at the front door of the library. The front door will be locked, so please knock at the window if you don’t see a staff member in the foyer.
  5. Show staff member your library card number, shown on the back of your library card, through the glass door. Step away 6 feet from the door while staff place your books on the table outside the front door. Please wait until staff have returned to the building before picking up your bag of books.
  6. The Pick-Up service, and the table situated outside the front door, is strictly for checking out library books. All book returns must be made to the blue book bin located at the bottom of the ramp.

As of June 1st 2020, all newly borrowed items will have their normal loan periods: books – 3 weeks, DVDs – 1 week, etc. All items may also be renewed twice, if there are no other holds on the items.

At this time, the library will be offering a ‘Grab Bag’ service for children’s books, in addition to selections you can make from our catalogue. During this time you can call or email a generic request for books to be selected by staff for your reading pleasure. For example, you can ask for 5 or 10 children’s picture books, or 5 story books on camping and 5 non-fiction books on dinosaurs, etc.
- Please understand that while we will do our best to fill your requests, we may not always be able to fulfill your exact wishes.
- These requests can be made by email, circulation@princerupertlibrary.ca or by phone at 250-627-1345.

What if I am housebound and can’t get to the library?
If you are not able to pick up the items, or have someone pick them up for you, contact the library to ask about home delivery services.
